Cave City Kentucky! My type of town!
What a wonderful little town! Yeah, Cave City, Kentucky is the perfect place to spend the weekend. Cave City is just a short 10 minutes away from Mammoth Cave National Park making it the prime place to stay.
There are many things I like about the town, mainly the nice people and how cheap the stay was. I stayed for 2 nights for $100 bucks. Yeah, I went on several cave tours which got expensive but overall the weekend trip was nice on the wallet. Typical tours at Mammoth Cave are $15 for adults and $10 for kids. Check out Recreation.gov for cave tour tickets. Even though Mammoth Cave is what the surrounding area is known for there are plenty of other things to do around the area in Cave City, Park City, etc. Over the next few minutes we’ll go on a tour of Cave City Kentucky and everything there is to do in the area.
I have been to Cave City many times and recently stayed at the Motel 6. Below is what a typical room looks like at Motel 6 Cave City. It definitely isn’t the best hotel in the area but I think it is one of the cheapest. Check out the Mammoth Cave Page to see discounted hotels in Cave City.
There are several hotels in the area but you’ll also find some cool motels too. Let’s go over the hotels in Cave City first then we’ll take a little about the local motels. You’d be surprised to know that some of the motels are better than the hotels.
Right, when you get into Cave City from I-65 north or south you are practically around all the hotels in the area. Remember Cave City is a small town, you won’t find any five-star hotels or anything. You will find a nice place to stay at a reasonable price.
Days Inn Cave City, Super 8 Cave City, Motel 6 Cave City, Comfort Inn & Suites, Red Roof Inn & Suites Cave City, Sleep Inn & Suites, Baymont Inn & Suites Cave City are all within the same area as you get off the exit. Motel 6 Cave City would probably be considered the worst of them all, and Sleep Inn & Suites or Comfort Inn & Suites would probably be considered the best of them all. Click the links to see pictures of the rooms. All these rooms are 2-star with the exception of Super 8 Cave City which is 3-star. The star rating really doesn’t mean much with these hotels. All of them are relatively nice. The only one that is rough would be Motel 6 Cave City. All the other are nice looking rooms. The price is of these hotels are between $40 buck a night at Motel 6 to $114 bucks a night at Sleep Inn & Suites. These rooms can meet any budget. In fact, if you are worried about the prices of hotels, you could get a backcountry permit at Mammoth Cave National Park for free and camp out for up to 14 days. You can get it at the visitor center. Mammoth Cave is about 10 minutes away from Cave City Kentucky.
Another great place to stay at is the Mountain Top Retreat Cabin Rentals. I didn’t actually stay there but I did drive up and take several pictures of the area. In my opinion, Mountain Top Retreat Cabin Rental has the best view of Cave City and the surrounding area. It is also close to everything. Cave City is just a minute or so down the road, and Mammoth Cave is about 5 minutes or so away. The cabins are just that only cabins, more like a wooden shack.
As you can see the cabins faces the view. This would be a beautiful sight to see each morning you wake up before you go to the park. The rolling hills and the picturesque view is why this such a great place to stay.
If you are interested in staying at the Mountain Top Retreat Cabin Rental just give them a call at 270-773-2995. Also if you have interest in staying in a cabin in the park check out Hickory Cabins. All of these motels are cheap and some are rough. It’s cool to see these motels because you get an idea of how the town was before the Interstate Highway System was built in 1956. The small motels served the purpose back then as they do now, people wanting to visit Mammoth Cave. Mammoth Cave has been giving tours since 1816.
One of the unique places in the area to stay is Wigwam Village Inn#2. These rooms are concrete teepees. Cleaver design of an American entrepreneur back in the 1930s. They are really cool to see and close to the Mammoth Cave. Mapquest says about 11 minutes from the park.
